--Congratulations to Samuella Sigmann! Ms. Sigmann was honored with an award for her "outstanding and prolonged service to the Division" by the American Chemical Society. Ms. Sigmann is a Senior Lecturer for the Deparmtent of Chemistry, the Director of the Chemistry Stockroom, and the departmental Chemical Hygiene Officer. --Congratulations to our 2011-2012 Outstanding Senior Award winner, Jared Harris, and to our Leadership Award winner, Ellie McCabe.

--An interdisciplinary team of researchers from Appalachian State University are monitoring air quality and atmospheric conditions and their impact on ecosystems and climate in the area. The project is called AppalAIR (Appalachian Atmospheric Interdisciplinary Research). The idea for the project began nearly two years ago when Brett Taubman, an assistant professor of chemistry, and Ryan Emanuel, an assistant professor of geology, began discussing their common research interests related to atmospheric processes .Read the press release or watch a video from Appalachian Today.

--Faculty and students in the A.R. Smith Department of Chemistry received funds from the NASA-sponsored N.C. Space Grant consortium to support research associated with aeronautics and space-related science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.  Learn more.
